The UK Gambling Commission (UKGC)
Amber Signal Workshop focuses on online casinos that state they are licensed to serve customers in Great Britain by the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC). This page gives a simple overview of what the UKGC does and how that relates to the operators you may visit through our links.
We are not the UKGC and we are not a gambling operator. Amber Signal Workshop does not hold a remote-gambling licence and does not provide gambling services.
1. Role of the UKGC
The UK Gambling Commission is the regulator responsible for licensing and overseeing gambling operators that offer services to customers in Great Britain. Among other things, the UKGC:
- Issues licences to operators that meet its requirements.
- Sets rules and conditions for how gambling must be conducted.
- Works to protect children and vulnerable people from gambling-related harm.
- Can take regulatory action where licence conditions are breached.
Operators licensed by the UKGC must comply with rules covering customer verification, marketing, anti-money laundering, safer-gambling measures and more.
2. Licensed operators and this website
When Amber Signal Workshop refers to casinos such as Temple Nile, Spinyoo or SpinStation, we aim to highlight brands that state on their own websites that they are licensed and regulated for customers in Great Britain by the UKGC.
3. How to verify a licence
Before you register, deposit or play at any online casino, it is sensible to:
- Look in the footer of the operator’s site for UKGC licence information and a licence number.
- Use the operator’s name or licence number to search the UKGC’s public register of licensees on the official website: gamblingcommission.gov.uk .
- Read the operator’s terms and conditions and safer-gambling information in full.
4. Complaints and disputes with operators
If you have a problem with a licensed operator (for example, about a bonus, bet settlement or withdrawal), the usual steps are:
- Raise the issue with the operator’s customer support using their complaints process.
- If you cannot resolve it, you may be able to escalate the dispute to an Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) provider identified in the operator’s terms.
- The UKGC generally does not resolve individual customer disputes but may take regulatory action where it finds breaches of licence conditions.
Amber Signal Workshop cannot access your casino account, balance or verification documents and cannot intervene in disputes between you and an operator.
5. Safer gambling and self-exclusion
UKGC-licensed operators must provide tools and information to support safer gambling, such as:
- Deposit and loss limits.
- Time-out options and longer self-exclusion periods.
- Reality checks and account-history information.
In addition, the national self-exclusion scheme GAMSTOP lets you restrict your access to many licensed online gambling sites in Great Britain.
For wider support and advice, you can contact services such as BeGambleAware and GamCare.
6. Our position and limitations
Amber Signal Workshop:
- Is an information and comparison site only.
- Does not provide gambling products or accept stakes.
- Does not issue licences or make licensing decisions.
- Does not represent the UK Gambling Commission or any specific operator.
Our role is to provide a narrow view of some UK-facing casinos and to remind visitors to check each operator’s licence status, terms and safer-gambling tools themselves before deciding whether to play.
